SMART detectives have determined this is not a police use-of-force incident and does not fall under WAC 139.12.030 regarding requirements for Independent Investigation Teams (IIT), however SMART detectives will continue to conduct the homicide investigation.
To that end investigators are looking for video. Detectives know that there were numerous people taking cell phone videos at the Starbucks scene as well as during the chase and immediately following the crash on Friday at 35th and Rucker. They’re seeking witnesses and surveillance footage that may provide information regarding the suspect’s activities prior to the shooting incident, during the incident, and following the incident.
If you have cell phone, home or business surveillance video between the 1000 block of N. Broadway and the 3500 block of Rucker Ave you are asked to check for activity between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 25 involving a dark blue Mini Cooper.
Residents are also asked to check for surveillance footage around the shooting scene (1010 N. Broadway) prior to 2 p.m. involving a silver Ford Fusion. The same if you happened to take cell phone video of the incident and haven’t yet come forward.
