New Silvertips head coach Mark Ferner

Silvertips sign Ferner to a 3 year deal as head coach

The Everett Silvertips Hockey Club presented Mark Ferner to fans and the media this afternoon as the fourth head coach in the team’s 8 year history. Getting ready to start their 9th season, Everett Silvertips General Manager Doug Soetaert said he interviewed four coaches for the position and was happiest with Ferner who he described as a coach on his way up. He said the team has two goals. One, to develop players and two, to win hockey games. Ferner spent the past four years as coach of the Vernon Vipers amassing a record of 165-51-24. He’s 45 years old, married and has a 15-year-old son who is a prospect with the Kamloops Blazers. He is a former NHL veteran who played with the Buffalo Sabres, Washington Capitals, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the Detroit Red Wings. When Ferner took the microphone he said that the one thing that’s non-negotiable with him is his team’s work ethic and added, “we won’t leave until the work is done”. The Silvertips kick off their 9th season on the road Friday September 23rd against the Portland Winterhawks with their home opener the following night against the Kelowna Rockets at Comcast Arena Everett.
