Explorer Middle School is part of the Mukilteo School District but located in Everett City Limits.
The school plans to fully replace the existing school. In Phase 1 they will build a new 21,400 square foot gymnasium and replace the track.
The new gymnasium building will provide a new main gym, an auxiliary gym, a fitness studio, locker rooms, restrooms and thanks to a November 1st, 2023 School Height Code Amendment approved by the City of Everett, will be tall enough to allow for volleyball.
As seen in the image to the right, the gymnasium will be in place of the current tennis courts.
The replacement track will feature new a new turf field, plus a rubberized track, and improved stormwater management and utilities.
The funding comes from a February 2022 voter approved Capital Bond Expansion Projects, which was a 25 cent increase in the old local tax rate ($12.50 per month for a $600k home).
Explorer Middle School currently serves 949 6th to 8th grade students in the Mukilteo School District. It is located at 9600 Sharon Dr, Everett, WA 98204 in the Holly Neighborhood in south Everett.
