While that is technically true, there’s a whole lot more than car washes going on at Blue Star Auto Salon in south Everett, Washington.
As a kid in high school he and his dad worked on a project car. “That’s where I fell in love with detailing,” Stephen told me. “I really enjoyed making a car look better than brand new.”
Stephen spent a lot of time working on cars and about ten years after high school decided to start his own business.
He began with basic cleaning and detailing and then evolved into offering more services including customizing.
“People come into the shop with an idea for their vehicle,” he explained. “We take that idea and transform it into an extension of their personality, into a piece of artwork.”
Services range from detailing to window tinting, ceramic coatings and paint protection film to cosmetic alterations of vehicles. “We’re a small business making sure we’re doing right by people,” Stephen said. “Trying to make the cars around Everett and Snohomish County look a bit cooler and cleaner.”
Blue Star Auto Salon just launched their own line of auto care products for tires, wheels, cleaning and detailing.
“I’m trying to change the idea of what people believe about this trade, I still get asked when are you going to get a real job?” Stephen told me. “I’m creating a nice future for my family and my technicians families.”
Stephen has four employees and an intern learning the trade. The shop originally opened in north Seattle but Stephen want to return to the area where he was raised and two years ago found his current space in a south Everett business park across from the Boeing plant.
He’s married and has a one-year-old and a three-year old that he refers to as the CEO and CDO (Chief Executive Officer and Chief Disney Officer) There are child safety gates around the shop and a room so the two can keep an eye on their parents at work.
