Monster Mash: It’s a mother-son smash

Friday, Oct. 5, 6:30-8 p.m.

Monster Mash

An event for moms and sons…

Treats, jack-o-lanterns and giant inflatable ghosts are reason enough for most boys of all ages to dress up for the Monster Mash mother-son dance and enjoy carving out some fun with mom.

“Monster Mash is a light-hearted opportunity for women and their children to take a time-out from the daily routine, laugh and make a memory together,” says Jan Tanner, event coordinator. “You’re never too old to dance with your mom!”

Boys of all ages and their moms, grandmas, aunts, or mother figures are invited to don costumes and hang out at the annual Halloween-themed dance in Forest Park’s Floral Hall, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd. The evening includes refreshments, party tunes and disco lights, plus crafts and activities.

Tickets are $34 for each mother-son pair and $6 for each additional child. Register under mom’s name at everettwa.gov/register or call 425-257-8300, extension 2.

Discover fungus among us at the Annual Wild Mushroom Show

Sunday, Oct. 28, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., class 1-3 p.m.

More than 100 varieties of fungal spores fill Forest Park’s Floral Hall during the Annual Wild Mushroom Show each fall. Drop by the free event to peruse displays, see videos, consult reference materials, chat with experts and enter a drawing.

Dozens of varieties bloom with edible mushrooms, while many others are deadly, and discerning one from another isn’t always easy! Everett Parks and the Snohomish County Mycological Society invite the public to dig deeper into fungi during a free mushroom identification class. The two-hour class begins at 1 p.m. in Lions Hall, also at Forest Park. Participants are welcome to bring samples from their yards.

Soak-up fun at Goblin Splash

Friday, Oct. 19, 7-8:30 p.m.

When pumpkins fly by and beasts churn the pool water at Forest Park Swim Center, it must be Goblin Splash! The pool welcomes friends and fiends of all ages to the annual Halloween season swim party.

Wear costumes to enjoy the poolside pumpkin toss and other on-deck games and refreshments. Then suit up for open swim time in the indoor, heated pool. Bring a generous canned food donation for the Volunteers of America Food Bank to swim free, or pay open swim admission as a donation to the Parks scholarship fund.

Forest Park Swim Center is located at 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd. For more information, visit everettwa.gov/parks call 425-257-8300 ext. 2.
