Shortly before 3:00 PM, Everett Firefighters were called to the Oakes Commons complex in the 3100 block of Oakes for a kitchen fire. Before fire crews arrived a sprinkler head in the kitchen activated keeping the damage to a minimum.
A family of five who lived in the apartment did receive help from the Red Cross due to water damage to their unit. There were no injuries and only the one unit was affected.
One concern for firefighters today was a lot of residents were looking out of their own apartment windows and watching fire crews arriving even as the alarms were going off in their building.
If you hear fire alarms in your building, even if your own apartment isn’t the one on fire, you need to evacuate until the fire department can make sure the fire is in fact contained.
Then go back to your apartment once the all clear has been given.
