The shopping center was shut down and several stores had to evacuate.

Everett Fire crews staged in the parking lot on the west side of the shopping center.

A crew working behind the Claremont Village Shopping Center in the 4800 block of Evergreen Way reportedly hit a two-inch gas line Wednesday morning.

The rotten egg smell drifted through the neighborhood and led Everett Fire to evacuate several stores in the shopping center until Puget Sound Energy could contain the leak.

Things were disrupted for about an hour before returning to normal.
