Six weeks ago a groundbreaking was held for Faith Family Village behind Faith Lutheran Church at 6708 Cady Road in Everett, Washington.
Today, the ribbon was cut and an open house held so people could see the community.
Next month once power has been run to the units, 32 people will be moving into the eight pallet shelters at the site.
“Three years ago this was a dream, a vision, a thought,” said Everett District 4 City Councilmember Don Schwab. “Today this is a model to show how the process can work.”
“This has been a very long journey,” said Roxana Boroujerdi who is the Executive Director of Faith Family Village. “We all worked together – we got it done.”
“Government is complicated,” Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin told the crowd gathered today. “When we first started I thought we’d be able to accomplish this in months not years.”
This is the first Pallet community in the United States for homeless families with children.
In addition to the one ADA Pallet Shelter for four people there are seven other Pallet Shelters each designed for four along with two bathroom buildings including one with an ADA toilet, sink and shower.
Also on-site is a kitchen and community area, the Faith Food Bank and a playground.
Staff from the Interfaith Family Shelter will help families staying at Faith Family Village to achieve permanent stable housing.
