After 3 Years, Pianos Are Back For Street Tunes Around Downtown Everett, Washington

They were a hit when first introduced back in 2010, and after a break for the Pandemic, pianos available for anyone to play have been placed at several locations in downtown Everett, Washington. Here’s the update from the City after the pianos began popping up on Monday. (note: the keyboards are locked at night)

This week, the City of Everett brought back Street Tunes after a three-year hiatus amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Street Tunes is an annual interactive art project which brings beautifully decorated pianos to downtown Everett. The City of Everett partners with business and community partners as host locations for the pianos.

“I’m so proud we brought back Street Tunes this year,” said Cassie Franklin, mayor of the City of Everett. “It’s been such a wonderful summer for our downtown, with many people coming to enjoy our fabulous restaurants, bars and shops. Pianos just popped out yesterday and music is already filling our streets!”

This year, there are eight pianos sited throughout the downtown and each is decorated by a different artist in a completely unique way.

• “Jimi Hendrix Experience” by Jesse James Jeter, located in front of Everett Municipal Building, 2930 Wetmore Ave.
• “Intertwined” by Amber Forrest, located in front of Imagine Children’s Museum, 3000 Hoyt Ave.
• “Play Me a Tune in the Rolling Hills” by Krista Jefferson, located in front of Schack Art Center, 2921 Hoyt Ave.
• “Produce Sounds” by Elizabeth Person, located in front of Sno-Isle Food Co-op / Sisters Restaurant, 2804 Grand Ave.
• “Mambo Kings Sing Songs of Love” by Cheri O’Brien, located in front of Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave.
• “Broadway Boogie Woogie” by Si Newland, located in front of E.I. Bar, 2610 Colby Ave.
• “Music Leopard Lounge” by Janet Wold, located in the Wetmore Theatre Plaza, 2710 Wetmore Ave.
• “Tickle My Keys” by Jackie Cort, located in front of Angel of the Winds Arena, 2000 Hewitt Ave.

The pianos will be available at these locations until Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023.
