Classes happen once a week starting in September and are open to anyone living or working in Everett, Washington but you need to get your application in by August 29th.
The Everett Police Department (EPD) is opening the application process for the 2023 Community Police Academy fall session and is encouraging community members to consider applying! This is your chance to get engaged. Over the next month, anyone who lives, works, or plays in Everett that is interested in a unique, interactive learning experience can apply to be part of the Academy. During this interactive course, participants learn about the department’s mission, values, and operations.
The 10-week program introduces participants to the basic information all police officers must know to perform their jobs, including: patrol tactics, criminal and narcotics investigations, use of force, community outreach, DUI procedures, domestic violence laws, SWAT operations, gang and youth services and more.
“Community members continually ask for an opportunity to learn more about their police department and how local government works, so they can effectively engage in the civic process,” said Lieutenant Brett Yeadon. “We’ve worked hard to put together an Academy that realistically represents our department and provides a behind-the-scenes look at how and why.”
Classes will be held on Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. starting on Thursday, September 14th, and will continue through Thursday, November 16th. Everett residents from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply, especially those who are not currently involved, but have a desire to participate actively in our community.
Participants must be 21 years-old or older and commit to attending all 10 sessions to graduate. All selected participants will need to successfully pass a WA State Patrol background check.
