“We had a really good January going and then the fire hit,” said Joshua. “We’re a small family-owned business and it was hard to get communication going with our landlord and their insurance company.”
“There was a lot of uncertainty and waiting,” William added. “We had people reach out and say they wanted to come in, to support us.”
Both Joshua and William have been working non-stop while the doors were closed, running the business virtually, taking orders and delivering direct to customers.
“From day one we’ve been big supporters of our local community,” William explained. Josh added, “We spend our ad dollars with the local radio station, the local sports teams and the High Schools, things the big chain stores don’t do.”
Doing what the big chain stores don’t do is how ESC Mattress Center got their start. ESC stands for Expert Sleep Center. There are no commissioned sales people and the owners have more than two decades of combined experience in helping people sleep better.
“We started our own mattress store to do things differently,” Joshua explained. “Instead of focusing on commissions or the lowest priced rectangle, we want to focus on you and getting you the best night’s sleep possible.”
The Pandemic was a challenging time with the store closed for eight weeks. When they re-opened, supply chain issues meant that product that used to take a week to get in was now taking two to three weeks minimum. “The upside to that was we began to focus more on local vendors who not only meet our standards but allow us to offer lower prices,” said William.
Now everything in the store has been cleaned or is brand new and the doors will be back open on Monday May 15th. Hours are 10 AM to 7 PM Monday through Saturday and 10 AM to 6 PM on Sunday. ESC Mattress is located at 10121 Evergreen Way in the same shopping center as Outback Steakhouse and Grocery Outlet. You can call them at 425-512-0017 or visit their website here.
One last thing, I asked about their mascot, a big friendly black and white Panda. “Well, Pandas sleep a lot,” Joshua said with a smile. “And everybody likes Pandas.”
