“I want when people walk in the front door of the restaurant to feel like they are in a home.”

That’s the first thing Mariela Stoyanova told me when we visited at Amante Pizza and Pasta, her family restaurant in downtown Everett, Washington. She quickly added, “I like when people at different tables turn to talk to each other.”

Opened in April of 2012 Amante Pizza and Pasta really is a family affair. When we visited I had a chance to meet Mariela’s husband Plamen, daughter Dani and son, Tez. All were working hard and getting ready to open the outdoor dining area now that the weather looks like its going to cooperate.

They make everything they can from scratch and buy ingredients locally whenever possible.

“I’m from Bulgaria and there we are very picky about our dough and bread,” Mariela explained. “It took a long time to find the right flour for the dough.” Other scratch made items from her Bulgarian upbringing include Shopska salad and baklava.

They are a neighborhood restaurant and work hard to develop close relationships with other businesses in the downtown Everett area. “During the Pandemic we would buy food from the other restaurants in town to support them,” she said. “While dining rooms had to shut down for a long time, we were already delivering and that helped us get through.”

Loyal customers have also been a blessing for Amante Pizza and Pasta. “People have continued to come here since day one from throughout the area and as far away as Blaine,” Mariela said, smiling as she told me. “The laughter and conversations from their last visit continue right where we left off.”

Like many business owners we’ve spoken with it has been challenging at times to find workers to replace those who have moved to other places over the years. “My cook has been with us from day one but it’s been hard to find waitstaff,” said Mariela. Inflation over the past couple of years has also been challenging with costs of some items taking triple and quadruple price jumps.

Amante is closed on Mondays but open Tuesday – Sunday from 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM. They offer delivery, inside dining and pickup. Beer, wine and cocktails are available. You can see their whole menu and order online through their website. You can also find out more on their Facebook page here.

But if you’re looking for great food along with some some very interesting and friendly conversation, then get to 1409 Hewitt Avenue, a block east of Rucker and personally visit Mariela and her family at Amante Pizza and Pasta in downtown Everett, Washington.
