Editor’s Update Wednesday Feb 3rd 4:30 PM: The car involved in the crash was a Hyundai Elantra and not a Kia. Everett Police provided the following new details today.
Traffic detectives continue investigating a serious injury collision on SE Everett Mall Way in Everett.Just after 4:30 p.m. yesterday, officers responded to reports of a collision involving multiple vehicles blocking the 300 block of SE Everett Mall Way. Arriving officers found several injured people and one of the involved vehicles had struck and sheared off a utility pole.
Traffic detectives responded to the scene. Based on their initial investigation and witness accounts, detectives believe a female was test driving a Hyundai Elantra. She was driving recklessly on northbound SE Everett Mall Way and rear-ended a Chevy Silverado which had just completed a right turn onto Everett Mall Way. The impact pushed the Silverado across the intersection, through a utility pole and into the parking lot of 316 SE Everett Mall Way where it came to rest on its side. A third vehicle, unoccupied and parked at the business, was struck by the utility pole.
The Elantra’s driver, a 42 year-old female, and the male passenger, a 39 year-old employee of an auto dealership, were both transported to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett with serious and potentially life-threatening injuries. No medical updates will be provided.
The driver of the Silverado, a 54 year-old man, and his 10 year-old daughter were treated at the scene for minor injuries and released. There were no injuries associated with the third vehicle.
Traffic detectives continue investigating the incident and believe speed was a factor in the collision.
The 300 block of SE Everett Mall Way was closed for almost three hours while detectives processed the scene.

It reportedly struck the back of a truck heading eastbound sending it into the pole. The truck then flipped into the parking lot.
There were two people in the Kia who suffered life-threatening injuries and were transported by medics to the hospital.
There were no injuries to the people in the truck. The case remains under investigation.
Editor’s Update 8:06 PM: All lanes now open. No update yet from EPD on severity of injuries or the details of the crash.
Two westbound lanes did remain open. Two people involved in the crash were taken to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett with life-threatening injuries.
Detectives with the Everett Police Traffic Safety Unit were called to the scene. No details yet on what is behind the crash.
