Former Everett K-Mart Being Used To Train New Firefighters

September 29, 2020

Everett Fire

Before it is demolished the building is getting used by area fire departments.

Before it gets torn down to make way for hundreds of apartments, the empty K-Mart at 79th and Evergreen Way has one last use. Multiple fire departments in Snohomish County are hosting Firefighting Academies in the long-vacant building. Earlier this month firefighters from Snohomish County Fire District 7 and Marysville Fire began a combined academy. Yesterday 15 new recruits from Everett Fire began training at the building. Both academies will be there for several weeks. There will not be live fire at the building but there will be hose work and lots of water flowing. Here are a few MyEverettNews.com photos of the activity.

Training rooms have been built at the former garden center.

Hose work will take place in these mock rooms.

Everett Fire has 15 recruits in their Academy.

The day started with socially-distanced team bonding for Everett’s recruits.

Firefighters will be training at the former K-Mart for the next several weeks.
