A couple of weeks ago thieves tried to rip the night deposit out of the bank wall. They were not successful.

Thieves trying to use a cutting torch to get at an ATM at a bank near Silver Lake ended up starting a fire.

Around 6 o’clock this morning a fire alarm was triggered at the Coastal Community Bank at 105th and 19th Avenue S.E.

An Everett fire engine checking out the alarm found smoke in the bank and a fire below the ATM on the back of the building. A commercial fire response was issued.

There was little damage but now Everett Police are investigating the use of a torch to try and access the ATM. The suspects took off before fire crews arrived.

This is not the first time thieves have targeted this particular bank.

A couple of weeks ago thieves unsuccessfully tried to remove the night deposit box from next to the ATM at the same bank branch.

Police are checking to see if the same crew is responsible for both theft attempts.

Here are some MyEverettNews.com photos of the damage.
