Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson has named Timothy Key as interim Everett Fire Chief until a new mayor is elected this fall and can select their own. Key replaces Eric Hicks who resigned after serving as Chief for only four months.

Key joined Everett Fire as a firefighter in 1995, and has served in a variety of roles, including acting driver, acting captain, paramedic and division chief. He is currently the assistant chief of EMS. Prior to joining the department, he worked as a commercial electrician and as a volunteer firefighter with the Marysville Fire District.

Key currently serves as president of the Everett Medic One Foundation, treasurer of the Snohomish County EMS Council and board member with the North Sound Accountable Communities of Health. He recently graduated from Leadership Snohomish County’s signature program and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in emergency medical services administration.

“I am honored to lead Everett Fire,” said Key in a city news release. “Our men and women provide incredible service on a daily basis, and I look forward to partnering with our crews and our community to continue to build on that good work.”
