The truck was a total loss but the driver is safe.

There were no injuries after a pickup truck travelling south on Lombard caught fire and crashed into protective flower planters in front of Xfinity Arena on Hewitt Sunday afternoon.

The fire and crash happened shortly after 2:00pm. It appears the fire may have started a block north of Hewitt at Lombard Avenue and California.

Police found a piece of the truck’s power steering pump on the ground at that intersection and flaming material stretched south on Lombard to the crash scene.

The driver did escape safely and was cooperating with police.

Probably a good thing this happened today and not Monday as the streets may have been packed for the W-W-E Monday Night Raw nationally televised event tomorrow afternoon.
