On August 14, 2015, the Port of Everett Marina will host the official ambassador of the America’s Cup Tour – the 139-foot schooner America – as it embarks on its North American voyage.
The modern day replica of the 1851 world-famous racing yacht, America, will dock at the Port’s South Guest Dock 1, located at 1700 West Marine View Drive near Anthony’s Homeport. The vessel will bring a day of family-fun to the marina, including free dockside tours, a sailing opportunity for purchase and a presentation.
Schedule of Events Open to the Public – August 14, 2015
- Free dockside tours: 1 – 3 p.m.
- Sail Aboard America: Board 3:30 p.m.; Depart 4:00 p.m.; Return 7 p.m.
- Free America’s Cup multimedia presentation at the Everett Yacht Club: 7:30 p.m.
“This opportunity is about more than engaging the yachting community in discussions about the current state of America’s Cup racing,” said Troy Sears, owner and skipper of America. “It’s also about generating greater interest and awareness among today’s youth. We’re looking forward to welcoming young minds aboard America to explore the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM disciplines) that have always been an integral part of America’s Cup racing.”
The tour, which launched in July, is making port calls in sailing communities across the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean, leading up to the 2017 35th America’s Cup races in Bermuda. The Port of Everett is part of the West Coast leg of the tour, and is the first marina to be visited in the Puget Sound region.
“The goal of this tour is to celebrate the event’s storied history and infuse a new level of excitement and involvement in the America’s Cup now and for generations to come,” Sears said.
Tickets for the sails aboard America in all areas will be available online at www.zerve.com/nxtLevelSail.
