Everett Police Honored For Cooperation and Information Sharing

John Martin from WSIN addressed the Everett City Council

At this afternoon’s Everett City Council meeting, Everett Police Chief Kathy Atwood accepted an award from the Western States Information Networks as Department of the Year. Mr. John Martin, the regional law enforcement coordinator for the WSIN, explained to the City Council that Everett PD has led the way above more than 100 other law enforcement agencies in sharing information on criminal suspects and investigations. Martin said that beginning last year, Everett Police started a policy of putting case information into a database that can be accessed by other law enforcement agencies to see if they are investigating the same suspect as Everett PD. Information is then shared so that each department knows what the other is doing and won’t adversely affect the other’s investigation. Everett also promoted the information sharing policy to the Washington Association of Sheriff’s and Police Chiefs who adopted Everett’s policy as a model for law enforcement across Washington State.
