Everett Students Panhandling for Charity

Brent Thompson and Xamara Cortez are panhandling to benefit the YWCA's transitional housing program.
Saw two kids panhandling on the corner of Casino and Evergreen Way in South Everett yesterday and just had to stop and check out what they were doing. They were well dressed, their sign was way too neat and they were smiling and waving more than most panhandlers I’ve come across on the streets of Everett. It turns out, Brent Thompson and Xamara Cortez, two students at
Everett Community College, are working on a project for their
Small Group Communications Course. So why panhandle as a fund raiser? Xamara says she always wanted to see what panhandling was like, they were aware of the need for transitional housing in the community and that the
YWCA was helping to address this problem and could put any funds raised to good use. Brent added that it was not just a project for the class but also a good feeling that goes along with what they’re doing. They’re also doing a more traditional game night and ice cream social to help the cause.
