Everett Police booked an Edmonds officer into jail this morning

Just got this in from Everett Police regarding an investigation of an Edmonds police officer…

At the request of the Edmonds Police Department, the Everett Police Department conducted an investigation into alleged misconduct by a veteran Edmonds officer of seven years, Daniel Lavely.  Charges are currently under review by the Snohomish County Prosecutors Office for Custodial Sexual Misconduct in the 1stDegree.

On May 9th, 2012 the Edmonds Police Department received allegations of misconduct by Lavely and requested the Everett Police Department complete an investigation.  The investigation looked into the actions of Lavely while he was on-duty the night of May 6, 2012 when he initially contacted a 28-year-old female resident of Seattle, WA for jaywalking on Highway 99 in Edmonds, WA.  The female was released but was contacted again by Lavely later that evening on an unrelated call.  During this second interaction it was alleged that Lavely took temporary custody of the female, put her in his patrol car and drove her to a remote location where the two had sexual intercourse.  The female reported the incident a few days later to law enforcement.
Based on the findings of a thorough and complete investigation, the Everett Police Department believes there is probable cause and referred criminal charges of Custodial Sexual Misconduct in the 1st Degree (RCW 9A.44.160) to the Snohomish County Prosecutors Office.  Lavely was arrested today at 11:00 a.m. and booked into Snohomish County Jail.
