Applications Now Being Accepted For Lottery To Fill 60 Slots At Bezos Academy In Everett, Washington

Everett, Everett Schools

Word in from the City of Everett that the application process for the Bezos Academy at Everett Station is now underway. The Bezos Academy selects eligible students (determined by age and family income not exceeding 400% of the Federal Poverty Level) via lottery. There are no geographic boundaries or requirements. Here’s more.

The location would be the northern first floor of Everett Station in its own space, separate from the Transportation operations.

This week, Bezos Academy launched the full application for their new, tuition-free, Montessori-inspired preschool in Downtown Everett which is slated to open in early 2023.

Eligible families are encouraged to complete the application, which is available in 12 languages, by 11:59 p.m. PST on Jan. 2, 2023, to be entered into a lottery for admission.

Earlier this year, the City of Everett partnered with Bezos Academy to secure space within the Everett Station to help address the ongoing challenges many local families face in finding quality, affordable preschool. Bezos Academy will offer year-round learning for three-, four- and five-year-old children five days a week, including the option for tuition-free extended-day learning.

“Early childhood education is critically important for our children and I’m proud to partner with Bezos Academy to increase access to preschool programs in our community, especially for our low-income families and families experiencing homelessness,” said Cassie Franklin, mayor of the City of Everett.

“We are excited to open our doors to the families and children of Everett next year,” said Mike George, president of Bezos Academy. “Thank you to Mayor Franklin and the City of Everett for your continued partnership on Snohomish County’s first Bezos Academy.”

The preschool will be located within the Everett Station, at 3201 Smith Ave., Everett, WA. The school will feature three classrooms that will serve up to 60 students and is planned to open in early 2023. Enrolled students will be provided with all necessary materials, supplies, and meals at no cost to the families.

Families earning up to 400% of the federal poverty level with children aged three to four years old are eligible to apply. For more information on household sizes and the federal poverty level, the Department of Health and Human Services’ federal poverty level guidelines can be found here. Foster children and children of households experiencing homelessness are given priority admission status. The admission lottery will take place on Jan. 3, 2023, and families will receive notification on Jan. 5, 2023.
