– If the weather cooperates, travelers heading north through central Everett should plan extra time for their trip starting this weekend as work continues to replace damaged concrete panels along Interstate 5.
The work is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, with all lanes reopening by 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31. Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will keep two lanes open to traffic from 41st Street to Marine View Drive. The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Marine View Drive will be closed. All other exits will be open and the HOV lane will be open to all vehicles.
People traveling on northbound I-5 should consider alternate routes such as State Route 9 to avoid delays on I-5 leading up to the lane reduction, which begins about two miles north of SR 526.
During the closure, crews will replace broken concrete panels that are now more than 50 years old and repair damaged concrete in the travel lanes as part of the Revive I-5 project. Later, crews will grind the concrete to create smooth travel lanes for drivers.
The work is weather dependent. Crews can work in light rain, but heavier rain could force a postponement.
Travelers can get real-time traffic information on smartphones with the WSDOT traffic app and by following the WSDOT traffic Twitter feed.
