Everett Monitoring Saturday Morning Tsunami Alert

You may have received an alert on your cell phone from the Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management with the following information regarding a Tsunami Advisory issued along the west coast of the U.S.:

This is Snohomish County Emergency Management with an emergency message. The National Tsunami Warning Center has issued a Tsunami Advisory for the Snohomish County coastline. Waves and strong currents may reach the County coastline later this morning but still uncertain. Impacts may last several hours. Be safe. Avoid Puget Sound beaches, waterfront area.

Additionally, the Everett Fire Department sent out the following information on social media this morning around 9:30 AM:

A tsunami advisory has been issued due to a massive volcanic eruption on the Island of Tonga (general area of Australia). A tsunami was generated, which has been moving across the Pacific and has already impacted Hawaii and Alaska with strong currents/waves of one to two feet. In the image below, you will see some early reports for various areas in Alaska.
Locally, we are monitoring information. Depending on your location, you may have received a phone notification about the advisory. There are NO evacuation notices in effect. Wave heights and strong currents of 1-3 are predicted but are still uncertain. Everett may start to see a “sharp rise” in water around 10:30. We do not expect to see any severe impact.

⚠️ Stay out of the water and away from the shore. Move off the beach and out of harbors and marinas. Remember, the first wave may not be the biggest and may arrive much later than the first.
The tsunami advisory will be in effect until three hours after the last wave that is one foot or higher.

There is likely no worry for Everett, Washington and around 11:00 AM Saturday the Washington Department of Emergency Management put out the following:

To be clear, though, the Tsunami Advisory is ONLY for the outer coast and Strait of Juan de Fuca, NOT for the inner coast Puget Sound counties.
