Kimberly-Clark announced today that they are in exclusive talks with a company called Atlas Holdings LLC for purchase of the Everett Pulp Plant. On the first of September, Kimberly-Clark announced they would be laying off workers if a buyer is not found before the end of the year. Kimberly-Clark first brought up the prospect of closing or selling the plant back in January of this year. Today Tim Fazio the managing partner for Atlas Holdings told me, “We’re doing a lot of hard work here. We’re very interested in the opportunity in this business.” Fazio says Atlas plans to continue operating the Everett site but needs to determine what the scale of the operation will be. “That scale will be predicated on how fast we can bring products to market,” said Fazio. Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson issued the following statement. “The announcement today that Kimberly-Clark is working with an interested buyer is good news for our community. We are committed to working with both companies toward a mutually beneficial outcome. Our goal is to keep these family wage jobs in our community.”
