Kidnapping & Domestic Abuse Chase Leads to Fatal Car Accident

The Snohomish County Sheriff were pursuing a suspect vehicle Thursday evening that was related to a kidnapping of an adult victim, and a domestic violence assault.

The chase started near Airport Road, led through Evergreen Way & Casino Road in Everett, then ended at the 14800 block of SR 525 Northbound in Lynnwood in a wrong-way crash. The Snohomish County Sheriff had terminated the pursuit when the suspect headed the wrong way on 525.

A head on collision between the suspect vehicle, a 2005 GMC Sierra pickup truck, and a 2004 GMC Yukon total both vehicles, with the suspect vehicle rolling and landing on the median and catching fire.

83-year old Trudy Slanger, of Lynnwood, was confirmed dead from the crash. She the driver of the other vehicle that the suspect crashed into while heading the wrong way on SR 525.

The fatal accident shut down SR 525 in both directions for several hours near 148th St SW in Lynnwood.

Both the male suspect and the kidnapped female passenger were sent to separate hospitals. According to the WSP crash report, the suspect’s name is Robert Rowland, age 37, from Kenmore, WA. His female passenger is a 34-year old from Monroe.

Authorities say the suspect is facing charges of kidnapping, first-degree domestic violence assault and second-degree murder.
