Kayak Point To Partially Reopen This Summer

Events in Everett

A popular excursion from Everett, Kayak Point, is set to partially reopen this summer when Phase 1 construction is complete.

Park visitors will have access to Kayak Point’s beach, picnic shelters, and the new boat launch. Unfortunately, the fishing pier will remain closed during this phase. Most picnic shelters will be “walk-in” with parking further away.

Here’s some drone footage of the changes being made at Kayak Point.

Kayak Point saw a record 140,196 visitors in 2020. The shut down for the improvement work started in 2022 when it was shut down.Grant awards for Phase 1 construction came from Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO), which was $2 million dollars in funding for the boat launch and upland improvements.

Expect to see these completed in Phase 1:

  • Boat launch replacement with wider, steeper launch (elevated design allows water and sand to move underneath the launch, which is better for fish habitat and easier for launching).
  • A boarding float, pier piling, and decking replacement.
  • New parking lot to better connect and separate cars and boat trailers from pedestrians
  • Central backshore berm, interim path connections, removed paving along the shoreline, planting & removing the sea wall along the central segment.

You can now make reservations for the picnic areas.

On October 15th, the Snohomish County Parks and Recreation will close Kayak Point again to start the second phase of construction.
