“Even though Everett is the largest city in Snohomish County it still has a small town feel,” Neal told me.
He began cutting hair back when he was a volunteer firefighter in Stanwood, Washington and a friend of his on the department was a barber and encouraged him to give it a try.
He worked as a barber in Lake City before opening up his own shop in downtown Everett.
“It’s always been a one-chair shop,” he told me when we talked this week. “Walk-ins only, no appointments.”
Over his years in downtown Everett he’s cut the hair of two and three generations of customers.
“The best thing about this job is the people I get to connect with on a regular basis,” Neal explained. “It’s like becoming a part of their family.”
The shop is open Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
Haircuts cost $13.00 but that will go up to $15.00 after the first of the year.
Editor’s Note: I first met Neal when he shaved my head after I lost an Apple Cup bet with former Sheriff Rick Bart back in 2005. He’s one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. As a small business owner he’s part of the fabric of Everett, Washington and I’d like to encourage you to visit his shop and other small businesses throughout Everett on this small business Saturday.
