We have nearly wrapped up seismic strengthening of the SR 526 overpass at Airport Road. We plan to install striping and return traffic along the Airport Road to its normal pattern on Thursday, Nov. 2, but if the weather doesn’t cooperate that work will be pushed back.

We also need dry weather to reset the westbound SR 526 off-ramp to Airport Road back to its normal two-lane configuration. We’ll schedule that work as soon as the weather cooperates.

Since this spring, we’ve added steel jackets to the columns and additional concrete and steel reinforcement to the bridge structure to help it better withstand a major earthquake.

Airport Road is one of four bridges to receive improvements as part of our SR 526 Seismic Retrofit project. Work on the overpasses at East Casino and Hardeson roads already has completed. Our contractor also is making good progress at Seaway Boulevard, and all of this important work should be completed later this year.
