The Everett Silvertips exploded out of the gate in their regular season opener, taking down the Victoria Royals by a 5-3 score.

Finnish Import pick Julius Miettinen tallied his first career WHL goal 2:05 into play, wiring a wrist shot home on the powerplay. Cade Zaplitny added a powerplay goal of his own at 3:54, jamming in a goal-line scramble for a 2-0 lead.

Victoria answered in turn, as Teydon Trembecky converted on a breakaway at 5:32 to get the Royals on the board. Alex Edwards evened things up with a wrister at 12:45.

A Carter Bear breakaway goal restored the Silvertips’ lead at 17:09 in the first, followed by a Teague Patton goal on the man advantage against his former club to give Everett a 4-2 lead through one. The Tips would tally three total powerplay goals on seven opportunities on the night.

Robin Sapousek scored the lone tally of the second for Victoria at 6:48 to bring the Royals within one. Alex Edwards was assessed a game misconduct at 10:41 in the second period for an illegal hit from behind on Everett defender Dexter Whittle.
