A reminder that the Everett Fire Department is having an open house and the “rolling-in” of their new ladder truck. Here are all the details.

The Everett Fire Department invites the public to join fire personnel at the rolling-in ceremony for its new ladder truck on Monday, July 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Fire Station 1, located at 3619 Rucker Ave.

“We honor the history of the fire service and our department by continuing the rolling-in tradition with our new ladder truck, “says Everett Fire Chief Dave DeMarco. “The new ladder truck will serve our Everett community and residents for many years.”

Dating back to the 1830s, the rolling-in ceremony is an old tradition that took place during the days when horse-drawn fire equipment was used and could not be easily backed into the station. The horse teams were disconnected from the equipment and the firefighters would push the equipment back into the station.

The event at Fire Station 1 will begin at 6:30 p.m. on July 29 with an opportunity for community members to explore the new ladder, meet fire staff, and attend the open house at Fire Station 1.
