Bail has been set at $50,000.00 for a man arrested last night and suspected in a fatal hit and run earlier this month on 19th Avenue SE in the Eastmont neighborhood of south Everett.

At about 8 PM on September 8th, 59-year-old Tracy A Gjernes was crossing the street in the 9700 block of 19th SE near the Skate Deck when she was struck by what witnesses told Everett Police was a red vehicle. She died at the scene and the vehicle fled.

Detectives from the Everett Police Traffic Safety Unit have been investigating and were able to obtain some video. They also put out a call for information from the public. According to probable cause papers presented in Everett District Court Wednesday afternoon, Everett Police did get some tips from people who reportedly heard someone talking about being involved in the crash.

Last night Everett Police got a tip and detectives went to Arlington and were able to find the vehicle involved. According to a detective’s description the vehicle had recent front end damage and fresh wet paint. They also talked to a woman who reportedly told them she was in the vehicle at the time of the crash and identified the driver. When they went to question that man he declined to talk to detectives and asked for a lawyer.

He was arrested, the vehicle impounded and a district court judge found probable cause to hold the man (who is 49-years-old and from Everett) on suspicion of felony hit and run with a fatality. The Snohomish County Prosecutor now has three days to file formal charges or release the man from custody.
