In front of a city council chamber packed with friends, family and fellow firefighters Dave DeMarco was sworn in as the new Everett Fire Chief at tonight’s Everett City Council meeting.

Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin praised DeMarco who she said stood out after a nationwide search that brought 21 candidates to apply for the position.

The Everett Fire Department has 175 members and around a dozen civilian employees. DeMarco praised the members of the department and pledged safety for all by delivering the right people with the right equipment and training to every call for service in the City of Everett.

DeMarco was named permanent Chief, taking over from interim Chief Tim Key who was appointed last year after the resignation of Eric Hicks.

The community is invited to meet Chief DeMarco at a celebration barbecue on Thursday, June 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Firefighter’s Hall, 2411 Hewitt Ave. Refreshments will be served.
