fatal Everett crash

A man from Lynnwood died in a crash early Monday morning.

The Washington State Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating a two-vehicle fatality collision that occurred at approximately 2:55 a.m. on Monday, February 29, 2016.  A Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) truck was parked on the inside shoulder of northbound I-5 at milepost 190 in Everett.  The truck had a truck mounted (impact) attenuator attached to the rear and an overhead arrow board directing traffic to stay right.  The driver of a 1991 Ford Explorer drove onto the inside shoulder and physical evidence shows he was on the shoulder for several hundred feet before striking the rear of the WSDOT truck before catching fire.  The driver of the Explorer was fatally injured and the WSDOT truck driver sustained minor injuries.

MAIT detectives are examining all aspects that lead to this collision and seek additional witnesses to the actual event or anything leading up to or after the crash.  If you know anything about this collision, or know someone who does, you are asked to call Detective Sergeant Jerry Cooper at (425) 508-0602 or e-mail at jerry.cooper@wsp.wa.gov.
