Don't be alarmed by gunfire at Naval Station Everett Friday

Don’t be alarmed by sounds of gunfire Friday

Naval Station Everett is putting the community around the base on notice that they may hear the sounds of automatic weapons fire this Friday, (9/21). According to Krisitn Ching from the Naval Public Affairs office, the exercise will include security boat maneuvers and the use of automatic weapon blank rounds to increase training realism. Exercise participants will not be issued live ammunition.

Ching says the purpose of the exercise is to maintain and improve qualifications of personnel who are charged with protecting the base, naval vessels, and maritime environment. There will be a 300-yard safety zone in effect and a broadcast notice to mariners in the area will be transmitted before and during the exercise. People may notice a lot of activity around the base and on the water. “If you do hear the sound of gunfire on Friday”, said Ching. “Please don’t call 9-1-1.”

The exercise is set to run from 8:00am – 2:00pm.
