Everett Coho Derby

Thousands of Dollars are up for grabs this Saturday and Sunday in Port Gardner Bay

If you’ve driven past the 10th street boat launch on the Everett Waterfront in recent days you’ve seen the huge lines as anglers cue up to launch into Port Gardner Bay. According to fishing experts, the coho run is exceptionally strong this year and many are reaching their daily limit in a very short time. John Martinis, owner of John’s Sporting Goods on Broadway in north Everett wrote the following in his monthly newsletter…”If August were a primer for Puget Sound Coho Fishing, then September is going to be off the charts.”

This Saturday is the 19th Annual Everett Coho Derby. Presented by the Everett Steelhead and Salmon Club and the Snohomish Sportsmen’s Club. Anglers from all over the Northwest will be competing on both Saturday and Sunday for cash prizes.

Youth Division prize awards will include: 1st – $100.00; 2nd – $75.00; and 3rd – $50.00. Youth division is for ages 12 and younger.

Entry Fees are $25.00 for adults and there is no entry fee for youth 12 and under. All Washington State fishing rules and licenses do apply.

If you’re not interested in going out on the water but do want to check out what’s going on the public is invited to come down to the weigh-in which is being held in front of the Port of Everett Offices on Craftsman Way. In addition to the Coho Derby the Port is also hosting a huge Marina Swap Meet at the 14th Street Pier in front of the old Everett Yacht Club.
