Brenda Stonecipher is running for Everett City Council position #6

Brenda Stonecipher – Everett City Council, Position 6

Candidate Statement

In my two terms on Everett City Council, I have been an independent voice, asking detailed questions to ensure that I understand all the issues before taking action. I do not come to the Council meeting with my mind made up — I am there to receive information to help inform my decision. I believe that City Council should not be a “rubber stamp” and that issues should be discussed in public and in detail.

I hold an MBA in finance & accounting from the University of Washington and I am a Certified Public Accountant. My day job is that of a Chief Financial Officer in the private sector. With this strong financial background, I have helped deliver balanced budgets that maintain City services. Because of the work of our city administration and council, Everett is the envy of the region for our strong financial position. I have also undertaken my own financial analysis of many issues, to better understand the financial consequences – both now, and in the future. Some of my work has been instrumental in changing the direction of our policy – I would point to the proposed annexation in south and west Everett, as well as the collection of the cable tax for public access. Both proposals were scrapped following my analysis, saving taxpayers millions of dollars.

The next four years are critical, as Everett readies itself to be a viable 21st century community. To be successful, we need to build infrastructure that attracts businesses and residents, improve our transportation system, expand our parks amenities, maintain strong public safety resources, and nurture a diverse economy. Everett has the resources, people and resolve to emerge a vibrant, thriving city. I have the leadership, enthusiasm, and determination to help take us there.
