Everett To Spend $110,000.00 for Electrical Art on Hoyt Ave.

Artists have until this Friday to submit proposals for electrical art to be displayed on eleven light poles on Hoyt Avenue in downtown Everett. Here are some details…
Project Goal

The City is seeking art that will define Everett’s Arts District through streetscape lighting elements that bring light and color to Hoyt Avenue. We seek a family of sculptural pieces, but not identical pieces.

Project Description

Design and fabricate eleven lighted, sculptural pieces that will be installed on the light poles along three blocks of Hoyt Avenue. Artists should consider costume/seasonal changes for the sculptures. The City will supply gobo projectors on each light pole which the artist may incorporate into their design. Durability, ease of maintenance and safety are necessary design criteria.

The new street light poles have been engineered to support artwork and include:

· GFCI outlets (120V, 15A) mounted at 11’ high. The outlets can support an electrical load from the sculpture not to exceed 250W each.

· Two sculptural support brackets mounted at 11’ high and 16’ high. The artist may choose to use the brackets provided, or if desired, provide their own brackets that mount to the pole using the same bolts and bolt locations. The pole and provided bracket assemblies can support a total additional weight not to exceed 120 lbs. for the sculpture and mounting appurtenances.

· The sculpture as mounted should be able to survive wind speeds of up to 80mph and shall not have a sail area greater than 12 SF (if with flat surfaces), or 14 SF (if rounded or spherical surface.)

· A gobo projector (Goboclip Mk3 150) mounted at 20’ high, standard D size metal or glass gobos. The artist may use the goboclip to illuminate their sculpture and incorporate the design of the gobo lenses into the proposal. www.griven.com/index.php?action=t_products_eng&id_prod=55&idSubCat=15

· In compliance with ADA regulations, there must be a minimum 8’ clearance between the sidewalk and the bottom of the sculpture.

Budget

The budget for the project is: $110,000 for eleven lighted sculptural pieces, including artist’s fee, travel, engineering, materials, fabrication, transportation, documentation, insurance, taxes and oversight of installation.

Eligibility

We are seeking individual artists or artist teams with experience in the field of lighting and street sculpture who have completed a project with a similar budget, scale and scope.
