Usually firefighters have to leave the station to get to accidents but the story was different for the crew at station 5 in Everett, Washington Saturday night. Here’s word in from EFD on what happened.

The Everett Police Department is investigating a motor vehicle collision after a woman, driving a Nissan Murano, drove her vehicle off the roadway, through a fence, and over a rock wall before crashing into a wall at Everett Fire Station 5, located at 1600 Madison Street.

The crash, which happened shortly before 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening, caused extensive structural damage to the fire station and the vehicle.

At the time of the crash, there were two firefighters in the room when the vehicle slammed into the building and breached the north wall of the building.

“We are thankful none of our firefighters were injured during this incident,” states Fire Chief Dave DeMarco. The inside of the station was littered with drywall, insulation, bricks, and other debris after the crash.

Everett Police are investigating whether the woman, who is in her 30’s, was impaired or if something else caused her to lose control of her car. The driver was not injured.

After officers impounded the vehicle, firefighters shored up the wall structure and a board up service was contacted to secure the facility. On Monday, a city-building engineer will conduct an evaluation of the damaged structure.

Firefighters will continue to work out of Fire Station 5. There are no current plans to limit the operations at this fire station.

The Everett Police Department is the primary investigative agency for this incident and will provide any follow-up response as necessary.
