United Way of Snohomish County and the Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management are assisting with a countywide effort to establish a sustainable volunteer management plan in the event of a disaster. If a large disaster occurs in our county, the Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) will be a mobile headquarters for organizing spontaneous unaffiliated volunteers.
After the devastating 2011 F-5 tornado in Joplin, Missouri, a VRC began mobilizing the almost 32,000 volunteers that wanted to help. Because of the well-organized efforts, volunteers immediately began recovery work in the community.
Volunteer leaders will be trained on how to deploy the Snohomish County VRC in the unlikely event of a county-wide disaster. Volunteers also participate in brief, quarterly trainings over a two-year term.
Nominate yourself, a friend, a colleague, or a family member for a VRC leadership role by Friday, March 15.
To apply, please visit the Volunteer Reception Center info. page.
