For the last 10 years Mike Garton has run the Colby Diner in downtown Everett, WA
It’s a small space at 2720 Colby.
Photos of classic cars and their owners line the walls.
There are six tables and you can also order to go.
Before the move to downtown he owned 50th Street Burgers in the Claremont Village Shopping Center in central Everett. Prior to that, a full-service restaurant.
“I’ve always been in the food industry,” he said with a smile when we talked earlier this week. “I really enjoy cooking for people.”
Its not a big restaurant, just a half-dozen tables in a space next to the entrance to the Everett Office Tower in the 2700 block of Colby.
It is bright and clean with photos of classic cars lining the walls along with memorabilia and a fair amount of chrome.
You’ll find Mike there six days a week hand preparing breakfast and lunch. The portions are plentiful and the menu is straightforward diner food.
Mike mentioned back when he had 50th Street Burgers the Everett High Alumni Colby Cruisers began meeting at his place.
“They kind of adopted me,” he said. “It started back then with a Thursday night garage group and they still meet here once a month.”
You can literally spend an hour just looking over all of the photos of the classic cars and Everett history on the diner’s walls.
Mike is from south Everett and was part of the first class to graduate Mariner High School.
He’s one of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet and also a great cook.
He says things have been a bit slow lately so I’d like to encourage you to stop by for breakfast or lunch and support Colby Diner.
They’re open early at 6 AM, Monday – Friday for breakfast then switching over to lunch until 2 PM. Open 7 AM ’til noon on Saturdays, closed on Sunday.
