On Wednesday night the Everett City Council voted unanimously to lower the speed limit on Evergreen Way between Airport Road and Everett Mall Way from 50 miles per hour to 40 miles per hour.

The speed limit on Everett Mall Way between Evergreen Way and 7th Avenue SE will drop from 40 miles per hour to 35 miles per hour.

The State of Washington had to sign off on the lowered speed limits and the City of Everett Public Works department says this is part of an ongoing program of safety measures that include lighting improvements and other adjustments to make roadways safer for both motorists and pedestrians.

Once the change is made additional signage to draw attention to the lowered speed limits will be posted on both streets.
