Received the following campaign announcement for the open 38th District seat in the State House which represents Everett, Washington.

Christopher D. Elliott, a well-known Mental Health Counselor working in Everett for the past decade, is announcing that he will run for the State House of Representatives in the 38th Legislative District. Elliott is likely to run as an independent upon completing paperwork but is considering which party will best suit the people of Everett.

In the 10 years that Elliott has lived in Everett, he has worked in many roles supporting citizens, including appointment on various community and diversity boards, and his work in group homes, community mental and behavioral health settings, as well as the Monroe Correctional Complex, working with individuals of all backgrounds. He now runs his mental health counseling private practice in Everett. Elliott is also devoted to being a strong supporter of people of all identities and communities.

Focusing primarily on social services and social justice topics, Elliott is seeking to put his community, professional, and academic experience to work in the City of Everett, hoping to create an “Everett for Everyone” – “It isn’t enough to follow a routine political blueprint to serve the people who live here. Everett has a wide array of cultures and organizations, political and personal beliefs, and an incredible physical landscape, all of which is inhabited by people of various concerns and needs – The citizens of Everett are strong and diverse and deserve leaders who can reflect this through the policies that they pursue. If people are not heard, supported, and empowered in their daily lives, public and private, then the politicians in that area are not doing enough.”

In addition to his unique vision, Elliott will be challenging traditional campaign practices; he will NOT be seeking endorsements and will be limiting both donation amounts and sources (individuals only).

Elliott moved from the rich culture of the east coast in early 2011, leaving his long-time home of New Jersey to pursue the natural beauty and slower lifestyle of the Pacific Northwest. But adjusting to the social services and cultural needs was something that would require a hands-on approach, as Elliott feels “real change has to come from helping each person to feel invested, not blanket policies and leadership.”

With the move, Elliott also brought a voice that is strong and unyielding for the people it hopes to be fortunate enough to represent. “People are not looking for perfect leaders or utopia; people are looking to live in a place that hears and represents their values and ethics, and where there is a safe and fair conversation about these things. This also includes physical safety in their neighborhoods as well as job security.”

Christopher currently lives in the Bayside neighborhood of Everett with his dog (Daisy) and snake (Levi). He enjoys going to many businesses and events in the area as well as exploring the surrounding scenery. Watching the resources and energy pouring into the area, he hopes to continue to interact with the stories, concerns, and passions that drive it all.
