Wrong Way Driver Causes Head-On Crash On I-5 Near 41st Street

A head-on crash shut four of five lanes on Northbound I-5 just south of 41st street in Everett this morning.

Around 9:40 AM a 57-yar old woman from Seattle driving a Toyota headed southbound in the northbound lanes of I-5 causing a head-on crash at about 52nd street. She was trapped in the car and had to be extricated by Everett Firefighters.

After being freed she was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center by medic unit with life threatening injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle involved, a 22-year-old man from Bothell was also trapped inside his car. He was transported by ambulance with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

Trooper Rocky Oliphant with the Washington State Patrol tells MyEverettNews.com the woman may have had a medical issue and was not believed to be impaired. She struck a sign at the 41st ramp before heading onto the freeway the wrong way. Troopers continue to investigate.

The freeway re-opened to all lanes about 11:15 AM.
