Events in Everett

This is the 3rd year for the event and march in Everett.

The Progressive movement continues to grow in Everett, Washington and Sunday there is an event for those interested in learning more. Here are the details.

June 2, 2019, at noon is the third annual North Sound Progressive People’s Summit, followed by the March for Solidarity. The event is being held at the Snohomish County Courthouse Plaza and Amphitheater, 3000 Rockefeller Avenue, in downtown Everett. More than 35 local progressive grassroots community action groups and organizations will be providing information and tabling. There will be live music from the Amphitheater Stage featuring Everett-based Jason Webley, international troubadour and activist, and the Orcas Island folk-singing environmental duo of The Irthlingz (Sharon Abreu and Michael Hurwicz) with original songs including from their Salish Sea collection. Speakers begin at 2 p.m. at the Amphitheater. The community is invited to engage, learn and build coalitions.

At 3 p.m. everyone will be invited to participate in a demonstration of support for our neighbors who are immigrants and refugees by marching! The Summit is joining the ongoing monthly “March in Solidarity with Immigrants and Refugees”, where all positive message signs are encouraged to be carried on the easy 1-mile sidewalk route. Signs for all progressive issues are welcome on this joint venture!

This year’s theme is The Power of Participation. The event is sponsored by SnoCo Indivisible, 350 Everett, Everett March in Solidarity, ForEverett and DSA. A special twist this year is that candidates and political parties are invited to stump on “Democracy Alley”, which is near “Climate Corner,” featuring the climate action and environmental groups. “Main Street” will include everything from voting information to local co-housing groups.

Speakers will discuss taking bold actions on democracy, embracing diversity, equitable representation, community responsibility for promoting social/racial/gender justice, the urgency of action as well as progressive ballot initiatives. Speakers include: Sheley Seacrest (Building Power from the Roots Up), Adam Cornell (Innovative Justice: Prosecution at the Crossroads), Rev. Rachel Taber-Hamilton (The Beloved Community Needs You! – The Moral Imperative of Civic Engagement), Hillary Moralez (Democracy is not a spectator sport, and we’re all in this ready to fight!), Juan Peralez (DeEscalate Washington, What’s next?), Cindy Black (Let’s Work Together and Fix Democracy!), Liz Vogeli (Ask Questions, Consider Hope), Anita Dietrich (Indivisible) and activist Jonathan Tong. In addition to the sponsors, participating groups include the Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility, Fix Democracy First, RESULTS, Sunnyside Village Co-Housing, SnoIsle Co-Op, Everett Meaningful Movies, Everett Districts Now, Green Snohomish, Whole Washington, FairVote, Moms Demand Action, Women’s March Everett Huddle, Jane’s Sidewalk Defenders, Helping Humanity USA, The Hands-Up Project, Resident Action Project Housing, SnoNAC, Everett United Church of Christ, and many more!

This is a free outdoor accessible family-friendly progressive community event where everyone is welcome. To find out more about the North Sound Progressive People’s Summit visit our Facebook page and for groups/organizations wanting to participate, email Chris at peoplessummit@hotmail.com!
