This traffic map of the construction site on East Marine View Drive shows were traffic can go.

Word in from the Department of Ecology that some drivers still aren’t getting the hang of the construction detours in place for the cleanup near East Marine View Drive and Highway 529.

A reminder to motorists in Everett that the left turn from northbound East Marine View Drive to the northbound on-ramp to Broadway Ave. N (and SR 529) is closed for construction. We’re digging out contaminated soil there as part of the Everett Smelter cleanup.

Even though there are many detour signs in place, we’ve met a number of drivers who didn’t know they couldn’t make this turn.

Here’s a map of the recommended detour, which starts several blocks south – at 16th Street:

The preferred detour route for those travelling through the Delta neighborhood.

In a few weeks we’ll switch the excavation to the other side of the intersection. The lane flow will be a little different, but the left turn from northbound East Marine View Drive onto the northbound on-ramp will remain closed.

Check our blog for background information about this project and the overall cleanup. Please note that we’ve switched the two work phases, so we’re now on Phase 2, with Phase 1 coming next.

Removing contaminated soil at this spot and replacing it with clean fill will help protect the Snohomish River. We realize the location affects many motorists, and we appreciate their patience and cooperation.
