City street maintenance crews began work Thursday, Sept. 14, on a shoulder repair project on Mukilteo Boulevard. Drivers should plan for a closure of the westbound lane near the west entrance to Forest Park next week.
Beginning today, crews will shore up the hillside along the roadway. Flaggers will be in place to keep traffic moving.
At 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18, crews will close the westbound lane of Mukilteo Boulevard at Forest Park to excavate, repair and repave the road. The westbound lane could remain closed through Friday afternoon, Sept. 22. Flaggers will alternate traffic through the closure area. Drivers who wish to avoid the closure can use Evergreen Way, Madison St. and Glenwood Ave. as a detour route(PDF).
“This stretch of the roadway is deteriorating,” said Mark Sadler, maintenance superintendent. “We know the closure is an inconvenience to drivers, but we need to repair the road before it gets worse, and make use of the dry weather while we still have it.”
The eastbound lane of Mukilteo Boulevard will remain open, with flaggers closing it intermittently during construction. Although access eastbound and westbound to Forest Park will be maintained, no through traffic will be allowed in or routed through the park.
Variable message signs will be in place to advise drivers of the closure. Signs will be posted designating the westbound traffic detour route as Evergreen Way to Madison Street to Glenwood Avenue to Mukilteo Boulevard.
