A heads-up from the State Department of Transportation about work on Highway 526 this weekend…

Late night and early morning drivers who use State Route 526/Boeing Freeway in Everett should prepare for a longer commute this weekend, July 21-23. Mukilteo ferry commuters should plan up to an extra 10 minutes of travel time to catch their preferred sailing.

All lanes of westbound SR 526 from Southeast Everett Mall Way to Evergreen Way will close overnight Friday and Saturday. The northbound and southbound Interstate 5 ramps to westbound SR 526 will also be closed.

During the closures, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will grind and repave this primary route to the Whidbey Island Ferry and Boeing. A signed detour will be set up.

Friday, July 21, to the morning of Saturday, July 22

  • All lanes of westbound SR 526 from Southeast Everett Mall Way to Evergreen Way will close from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m.
  • The northbound I-5 ramp to westbound SR 526 will close from 8 p.m. to 9:30 a.m.
  • The southbound I-5 ramp to westbound SR 526 will close from 7 p.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Saturday, July 22, to the morning of Sunday, July 23

  • All lanes of westbound SR 526 from Southeast Everett Mall Way to Evergreen Way will close from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.
  • The northbound I-5 ramp to westbound SR 526 will close from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m.
  • The southbound I-5 ramp to westbound SR 526 will close from 6 p.m. to 10:30 a.m.

This weather-dependent work is part of a preservation project to repave SR 526.
