Eric Hicks Sworn In As Everett Fire Chief

Eric Hicks takes the oath of office as Everett’s new Fire Chief.

Eric Hicks is officially the new Fire Chief in Everett, Washington. He was sworn in at the beginning of Wednesday night’s Everett City Council meeting as a full room of family and friends watched. Hicks replaces Murray Gordon who retired after 40 years.
Hicks has been in the fire service for 22 years and joined the Everett Fire Department in 1999. After taking his oaHe addressed the council and related the story of how he answered when his first fire chief asked him why he wanted to be a firefighter. “I want to kick down doors and save babies sir,” said Hicks.
Most recently Hicks served as Fire Marshal and as one of the Deputy Chiefs. He is the first African American to lead the Everett Fire Department. Currently assembling his command staff, he tells MyEverettNews.com that he hopes to have all of the positions filled by the end of February.
