Laurel Howard got a winning scratch off ticket at the Chevron-Baskin Robbins on 132nd SE

The saying “Somebody’s Gotta Win” proved true for an Everett woman last week. Here’s a press release we just received from the Washington State Lottery…

Laurel Howard of Everett couldn’t believe her eyes when she won $50,000 on March 1 playing a Washington’s Lottery “Lucky 7s Crossword” Scratch ticket. Howard purchased the ticket from Perry Ventures (13116 39th Ave SE) in Everett, and scratched it at her home later that evening.

“I was on the phone with my boyfriend when I was scratching the ticket. I wasn’t really paying attention, and didn’t realize I won until I got off the phone. I called him right back and said, ‘You need to come home.’” Howard said she told her boyfriend she won and all he could say was, “No you did not.”

The next person Howard called was her mother. “My mom was so happy for me. She suggested I do something amazing with it – I’ll be taking that advice!” She shared that she plans to pay off all of her bills. “Medical bills have been haunting me for years. Once those are paid it will be such a relief, and I’ll have a little extra to spend.”

Howard told Lottery officials her favorite Washington’s Lottery games are the crosswords, and that her secret to her success is to, “scratch from the beginning to the end and hope to win!”

When asked about immediate plans to celebrate her winnings, Howard shared, “I’m taking my daughter to get some ice cream!” She also added there might be a mini-vacation in the near future.

Proceeds from Washington’s Lottery benefit the Washington Opportunity Pathways Account, providing grants to college students statewide. To learn more about Washington’s Lottery, its beneficiaries and to review all up-to-date winning numbers, please visit www.walottery.com.
